PHOENIX POBLENOU

The city is a living organism that constantly grows in size and gets more specialization in every part. This causes challenges in the communication between those who are regulating the processes, and those who are experiencing the changes. Today, participatory processes in design are more imperative than ever, since we need to make more responsive and reflective cities.

Phoenix Project proposes a tool that is authentic, open and collaborative in the decision-making process of spatial use and configuration, with the aim of stimulating and coordinating the participation process. It brings together experts and local people on a digital platform to carry out urban design processes together, considering the digital transformation in today’s cities of technology.

Phoenix Project can adapt to any local context and challenge. In this particular prototype, it focuses on promoting urban vibrancy in the Poblenou district of Barcelona. Data analysis tools, space syntax techniques and computational algorithms were used to measure Urban Vibrancy in the area. Providing a dynamic, data-driven and participatory toolkit, Phoenix aims at interconnecting the future change-makers to the community, where rational ideas can be directed to local needs and decision-making processes can be carried out in a feedback-oriented environment.
